On an early Saturday morning in December, members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia, boarded buses for the forty minute ride to Kinarut, Sabah. Their purpose was to provide service at Sri Pritchard, an elderly care center. Over sixty members of the congretation, including entire families, participated in the event.

The 81 Malaysian residents residing at Sri Pritchard provided a perfect opportunity for the church members to serve and gain a greater respect for the elderly. The families visited with each resident and presented them with a hygiene kit provided by LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. LDS Charities also provided Sri Pritchard with a few needed items such as rolling commodes and laundry trolleys. A dozen men and boys applied a fresh coat of white paint to the opening gates of the facility.
The focus of LDS Charities is to help the poor and needy, relieve suffering and help people help themselves. They are completely funded by voluntary donations from their church members. The new friends talked, laughed and cried together as they shared stories and feelings. Everyone was edified by this simple interaction. Some families said they will be going back to Sri Pritchard to visit their new friends again!
