Latter-day Saint Carolers

Carolers Bring Glad Tidings of Great Joy to Kuala Lumpur

Singing Christmas carols in local shopping malls and hotels is something the Puchong Branch members from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) enjoy. This year was no exception.

Under the direction of Jennifer Natividad, more than 20 members prepared weeks in advance rehearsing carols and choreography to bring glad tidings of great joy to Kuala Lumpur at various locations this year, including the four-point Sheraton Hotel.

Carol Ng, the Church's National Public Affairs Director in Malaysia, said, "Several malls contacted me again this year to return after last year’s success."

This volunteer group, of all ages, is encouraged to share joy and cheer as members of the LDS congregations (also known as "Mormons"). Performers wore festive outfits, Santa hats, and friendly smiles!  Several soloists performed with personality and flare. Olivia, a poised, nine-year-old, sang “Oh, Holy Night” bringing a spirit of reverence and awe into the audience, as she took us back to Bethlehem on the night the Christ-child was born.

Carolers brought Santa and Santarina along to hand out 1000 candy canes on colorful Christmas cards, with a message about "Light the World" which was the Church's annual Christmas campaign to encourage the world to celebrate the special season by providing service to others. Enthusiastic listeners enjoyed filming Carolers and taking pictures with them.

Inspirational music is an essential part of LDS church meetings.  The hymns invite the Spirit of the Lord, create a feeling of reverence, unify members, and provide a way for us to offer praises to the Lord. Some of the greatest sermons are preached by the singing of hymns.

The world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir, from Salt Lake City, Utah, is an all-volunteer choir from the LDS Church that has performed the world over to large audiences and important VIPs, often in prestigious venues.

Mormons believe their scripture that says, "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads" (D&C 25:12).
